Pure sine wave is better than simulated sine wave
Unlike the digital audio versus analog audio debate, some electronic equipment will literally refuse to work when they do not detect pure sine wave waveform on the alternating current. Learned it the hard way trying to drive an uninterruptible power supply, even though everything else is correct, voltage, current, capacity all within spec, the UPS simply will not start up. After much head scratching and internet free associating (back in the old days, before the advent of LLMs and generative AI), it’s as discovered that the inverter was generating simulated sine wave and the “stair steps” in the simulated waveform was coarse enough to be detectable by the UPS thus it shuts itself down. Only after obtaining a true sine wave inverter that we were able to start up the UPS, averting disaste
